Family is the foundation of U.S. immigration law, and it is the foundation of this firm. Verde Law handles family petitions from the first form to the final interview, for families in Miami and across the country, so the people you love can stop waiting in fear and start building here.
Who you can petition for
U.S. citizens can petition for spouses, children, parents, and siblings. Permanent residents can petition for spouses and unmarried children. The category determines everything else, because immigration law splits families into two very different lines.
Immediate relatives vs. everyone else
Spouses, unmarried children under 21, and parents of adult U.S. citizens are immediate relatives: no annual limit, no waiting line beyond processing. Every other category waits in the visa bulletin queue, sometimes for years. Knowing which line your family is in, and whether a faster path exists, is the first thing we analyze.
Two roads to the green card
- Adjustment of status: your relative applies from inside the United States and attends an interview here. While the case is pending, a work permit is often available.
- Consular processing: your relative completes the case at a U.S. consulate abroad.
Choosing wrong can strand a family member outside the country or expose a problem that a waiver should have solved first. We map the road before anyone files anything.
What we handle
The petition, the green card application, the affidavit of support, fiancé(e) visas, waivers when a prior overstay or entry creates a problem, responses to requests for evidence, and full preparation for the interview, including the marriage interview. If USCIS is going to ask it, you will have heard it from us first.
The problems we solve before they become denials
Prior entries without inspection. Old removal orders. Previous petitions that were denied. Income that falls short of the sponsorship requirement. A marriage that is real but thin on paperwork. None of these are reasons to avoid filing. They are reasons to file correctly, with the problem handled up front instead of discovered at the interview.
How long does a family petition take?
It depends entirely on the category and the path. Immediate relative cases move fastest; preference categories follow the visa bulletin. At your consultation we give you a realistic timeline for your specific case, not a generic one.
Can my spouse work while the case is pending?
If your spouse is adjusting status inside the United States, a work permit application is typically filed alongside the green card application.
